安东尼康平神父（休·格兰特 Hugh Grant 饰）受教会所托，携妻子艾斯黛拉奔赴偏远的澳大利亚小镇，去劝说画家诺曼林赛（山姆·尼尔 Sam Neill 饰）撤掉即将举办的个人画展上一张亵渎宗教的画作。
